A good Italy tour is not simply a list of famous places. The route, number of nights in each stop, quality of the guide and size of the group all shape the trip. That matters even more when you are travelling from Australia and want the long journey to be worthwhile.
Spring brings mild walking weather, gardens and long days without peak-summer heat. September and October suit food and wine travellers, with harvest activity in many regions and generally comfortable conditions for touring. July and August work well for alpine landscapes and some coastal itineraries, but popular cities and beaches are busier. Winter departures are fewer and tend to be built around cities, cultural programs or seasonal events.
Choose a small group tour if you want specialist access and the company of other travellers without a large coach-group feel. Choose an escorted tour if complete logistics management matters most. A private tour makes sense when you want greater control over pace or are travelling with your own group. Interest-led tours are the strongest choice when food, wine, art, archaeology or walking is the reason for the trip rather than an optional extra.
Before booking, compare the maximum group size, number of hotel changes, walking requirements, included meals and amount of free time. Flights, travel insurance and personal expenses are generally separate, while accommodation, transport within the itinerary, guiding and listed visits vary by tour. The individual tour page gives the full inclusions and current departure details.
Our Melbourne-based team knows these itineraries and the operators behind them. We can explain the trade-offs between two similar tours, flag a pace or group size that may not suit you, and help with pre- or post-tour planning. Speak to an Italy specialist about the best 2026 option for your dates.
Yes. Each tour shown here has at least one 2026 departure in the current schedule. Places can sell out and operators can amend dates, so contact us to confirm availability before making other arrangements.
Possibly. Availability depends on the departure and room type, and some later-season tours may still have space. Send us your dates and we will check the closest suitable options rather than asking you to enquire with several operators.
April to June and September to October suit most touring styles because temperatures are generally comfortable. July and August can work well for the Dolomites, Italian Lakes and selected coastal trips, while winter is better suited to cities and cultural itineraries. The best month depends on the regions and pace you prefer.
International flights are generally not included. Tour inclusions vary, but commonly cover accommodation, transport during the itinerary, guiding and specified meals or visits. We recommend arriving at least one day before a group tour begins, particularly after the journey from Australia.
Many are. Small group and escorted tours provide a natural social setting, and solo travellers are common on many departures. Single supplements and room-share arrangements vary, so ask us to compare the real solo cost and rooming options.
