Amalfi Coast tour

Amalfi Coast Tour 2027

Experience the Amalfi Coast and Naples through iconic towns, coastal landscapes and rich history, from ancient ruins to cliffside villages.

Tour Details

The Amalfi Coast is one of Italy’s most recognisable regions — dramatic cliffs, coastal roads, and towns layered into the landscape — but its story is just as much about history, culture, and everyday life as it is about scenery. This tour combines the coastline’s iconic locations with deeper exploration of the region’s past and local traditions.

Beginning in Naples, one of Italy’s most characterful cities, the journey quickly moves into the ancient world with a visit to Pompeii. Preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, the site offers a detailed view of Roman life, providing context for much of what follows throughout the trip.

From there, the pace shifts as you move along the coastline. Towns like Positano and Amalfi deliver the classic Amalfi experience, while places such as Ravello and Anacapri offer a quieter, more elevated perspective — both literally and figuratively. Time is spent not just moving between locations, but experiencing them — whether that’s walking through historic centres, visiting gardens and villas, or simply taking in the views.

Food plays an important role throughout, from Naples — the birthplace of pizza — to the fresh, coastal cuisine found along the Amalfi Coast. Local ingredients, simple preparation, and regional specialities are a consistent theme.

The tour balances guided exploration with free time, allowing you to experience each place at your own pace. It’s suited to travellers who want to see the highlights of the Amalfi Coast while also understanding the history and culture that shape the region.

We meet in Naples, a city full of energy, history and strong local identity, set beneath Mount Vesuvius.

From here, we travel to Pompeii, one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in the world. Buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, the city has been preserved in extraordinary detail. With a local guide, we walk through streets, homes and public spaces, gaining insight into daily Roman life.

After time to explore, we enjoy lunch nearby before continuing south to Sorrento.

Overlooking the Bay of Naples, Sorrento provides a relaxed coastal setting, with views across to Vesuvius and access to the surrounding region. You’ll have time to settle in and explore the town at your own pace.

Meals: Lunch (including wine)

Today we travel by ferry across the Bay of Naples to the island of Capri.

We begin in Anacapri, the quieter and more elevated part of the island. From here, you can take in panoramic views across the coastline, visit Villa San Michele, or take the optional chairlift to Monte Solaro for sweeping views over the island and sea.

We then continue to Capri town, where you’ll have time to explore at your own pace — browsing boutiques, visiting the Gardens of Augustus, or simply enjoying the atmosphere of this iconic destination.

Optional experiences include a visit to the Blue Grotto or a boat trip around the island’s dramatic coastline.

We enjoy lunch on the island before returning to Sorrento in the afternoon.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch (including wine)

Today is dedicated to exploring the Amalfi Coast, travelling along one of Europe’s most scenic coastal routes.

Our first stop is Positano, where pastel-coloured houses cascade down steep cliffs to the sea. You’ll have time to wander the narrow streets lined with boutiques and cafés, or make your way down to the beach.

We continue along the coast to Amalfi, once a powerful maritime republic. Here you can visit the Cathedral of St Andrew, explore the town centre, or relax along the waterfront.

In the afternoon we travel up to Ravello, set high above the coastline. Known for its gardens and panoramic views, Ravello offers a quieter and more elevated perspective of the Amalfi Coast. Visits may include Villa Cimbrone or Villa Rufolo.

We return to Sorrento in the evening.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch (including wine)

This morning we travel to Mount Vesuvius, the volcano that has shaped the landscape and history of the region.

From the drop-off point, there is a steady walk up to the crater. At the summit, you can look directly into the volcano and take in views across the Bay of Naples.

After descending, we return to Naples.

The afternoon is free to explore — whether visiting historic sites, walking through local neighbourhoods, or experiencing the city’s food culture. Naples is the birthplace of pizza, and this is the ideal place to experience it at its source.

In the evening we come together for a final group dinner.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner (including wine)

The tour concludes in Naples.

Depending on your departure time, you may wish to explore further — visiting the historic centre, waterfront or local markets — or continue your travels through southern Italy.
