Day 1 Catania
Private transfer from Catania airport to hotel Il Principe in Catania or similar. Accommodation. Dinner and overnight in your hotel.
Day 2 Catania • Siracusa • Ragusa
After breakfast in your hotel you will visit Syracuse, the most beautiful and greatest Greek colony in Sicily and World Heritage Site. The visit will start with the Archaeological Park of Neapolis, with its Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre, the Latomie of Paradise and the Ear of Dionysius.
Your tour will continue with a visit to the splendid Ortigia, a small island, which is the historical centre of Syracuse. In Ortigia you will admire the beautiful Cathedral which dominates the square with its authoritative presence. The present façade is a powerful Sicilian-Baroque composition, but it gives no hint that this building was once a Doric temple. The cathedral is built upon the site of the Temple of Minerva, the legendary Arethuse Fountain and the Temple of Apollo. Enjoy free time for lunch.
After lunch your will travel to Ragusa and visit the enchanting historical centre Ibla, with its stunning baroque palaces and churches. Together with another seven cities in the Val di Noto, Ragusa is listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Enjoy a tasting of traditional local produce of the island along the way. Spend dinner and overnight at Hotel Poggio Del Sole.
Day 3 Ragusa • Caltagirone • Piazza Armerina • Agrigento
After a buffet breakfast, depart to Caltagirone, a small town in the inland of Sicily, declared by UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous worldwide for the production of pottery and in particular majolica (Italian tin-glazed pottery that dates back to Renaissance and decorated in bright colors) and terracotta wares: panoramic visit and opportunity of shopping.
Continue to Piazza Armerina to visit the worldwide known Villa Romana del Casale, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to its well preserved mosaics depicting mythological themes and hunting scenes.
Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant with an exclusive menu which provides the opportunity for you to taste local specialities. Depart to Agrigento, a hillside town famous for its magnificent Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a guided tour of the Valley, including the Temple of Concordia, which is in almost perfectly preserved condition, Juno and Heracles. Accommodation and dinner at hotel Dioscuri Bay Palace.
Day 4 Agrigento • Palermo • Monreale
After a buffet breakfast depart to Palermo. This special day will be dedicated to discovering the capital of Sicily, Palermo. Arrival in Monreale and visit of the Cathedral, one of the most beautiful monuments of the world with its Moorish architecture, housing very fine mosaics representing a complete cycle of the Old and New Testaments and the Benedictine Cloister in Arab-Norman style. Enjoy free time for lunch.
Proceed to Palermo to visit the historical centre, one of the largest of Europe, including the Cathedral, the Palace of the Normans and its superb Palatine Chapel. Accommodation, dinner and overnight at Grand Hotel Piazza Borja.
Day 5 Palermo • Segesta • Erice • Salt Route (Trapani Area) • Palermo
Enjoy a buffet breakfast, before departing for Segesta to admire the magnificent Doric Temple (420 BC to 430 BC), and the Theatre, one of the best-preserved Greek architectural sites, surrounded by a beautiful landscape.
Continue to the Medieval village of Erice, placed on the top of a hill overlooking the city of Trapani and the Egadi Islands. Enjoy walking through its tiny and characteristic streets, the winding lanes and inner courtyards.
Enjoy free time for lunch before heading to the Trapani area for a scenic tour of the salt windmills and basins, which are still in use. Return to Palermo for dinner and overnight in your hotel.
Day 6 Palermo • Cefalu’ • Nebrodi Park • Taormina
After a buffet breakfast, travel to Cefalù, a former fishing village, now a charming coastal town. Enjoy a walk to the city center and down main street to visit the Arab-Norman Cathedral and the Medieval wash-houses built in the rock.
Drive through the Park of Nebrodi and stop at the Miraglia Forest for lunch with a traditional local menu. Continue to Cesarò, Randazzo and visit the Etna park. You’ll be able to appreciate Etna from a unique point of view – the north facing side – surrounded by beautiful landscapes.
You will travel to Taormina for accommodation and dinner at hotel Villa Diodoro, located near historic centre of Taormina.
Day 7 Taormina • Mt Etna • Taormina
After a buffet breakfast, enjoy a morning at leisure or for those who are interested, you have the opportunity to take an optional excursion to the Mount Etna, the highest active Volcano in Europe. Weather conditions permitting, you will travel across fascinating landscape, and you will reach a height of 1800 metres.
Here, you can see the Sylvester Craters where you can enjoy spectacular scenery over the Ionian Sea (supplement on the spot; the excursion will take place with a minimum of participants). Enjoy free time for lunch.
Spend the afternoon in Taormina, a charming city called the Pearl of the Ionian Sea. Enjoy some time at leisure for shopping or walking through its tiny streets.
You have the option to visit the Greek-Roman Theatre independently, with its spectacular view of Giardini Naxos and Mount Etna. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 8 Taormina
After buffet transfer from hotel to Catania airport and end of the Tour.
