DAY 1 CATANIA
You will arrive independently to the 4 star, Grand Hotel Villa Itria. Your hotel is very close to Etna’s Park, in Viagrande, a few kilometers from downtown Catania and the airport. Enjoy a welcome cocktail, dinner and an overnight stay in your hotel.
DAY 2 CATANIA • MOUNT ETNA • TAORMINA • CATANIA AREA
After a buffet breakfast, you will take an excursion to Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe – this is based on suitable weather at the time. You will travel across fascinating landscape, and will reach a height of 1900 metres to visit the Sylvester Craters where you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view over the Ionian Sea. On the way, stop to the village of Zafferana Etnea, “the City of Honey” to visit a beautiful place where they produce honey and taste the precious nectar made by skilled hands. Back to your Hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, depart to Taormina, charming city called “the pearl of the Ionian Sea”, founded in 400 BC and beautifully located overlooking the sea and the peak of Mount Etna. Enjoy time at leisure to shop for handmade lace, coral jewels, ceramics, home-made sweets and preserves down “Corso Umberto” or simply walk through its tiny streets. Individual visit of the fascinating Greek-Roman theatre. Tonight, enjoy a dinner in a local restaurant located in the historical centre. Back to your Hotel in Catania/Viagrande: overnight.
DAY 3 CATANIA • SIRACUSA • NOTO • RAGUSA
After a buffet breakfast, travel to Syracuse to visit the most beautiful Greek colony of Sicily. Visit of the archaeological park “Neapolis”, including the famous Latomie of Paradise, the Greek Theatre and Dyonisios “Ear”. Visit the island of Ortigia, the small baroque old city centre of Siracusa: here you can admire the Cathedral, which is built on the site of the Temple of Minerva, the legendary “Fontana Arethusa” and the Temple of Apollo. Entering Ortigia food market, you will experience the market stalls, admiring artistically arranged stands of vegetables, nuts, fruits, cheeses, meats and fresh fish. Continuing through the vibrant market, you will stop in a traditional Sicilian street food delicatessen for an unforgettable light lunch with several samples of typical Sicilian appetisers. In the afternoon, proceed to Noto, one of the most beautiful cities in Sicily and renowned for the harmony and unity of its Baroque style. It has been listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The splendid cathedral is one of the most famous buildings in Noto. Travel on to Ragusa, where you will check into your 4 star hotel, Mediterraneo Palace for dinner and an overnight stay.
DAY 4 RAGUSA • MODICA • AGRIGENTO
After a buffet breakfast, you will visit the lower and older town of Ragusa – Ragusa Ibla, home to a wide array of Baroque architecture, including several stunning palaces and churches. It’s Cathedral is situated in the beautiful square of the Duomo of San Giorgio, near the Ibleo Garden. The Giardino Ibleo is the oldest of the four main parks in Ragusa. It is a small, tranquil 19th Century Park with stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
Travel to Modica to visit the city divided into two parts: Modica “Bassa” and “Alta”. Modica is also a UNESCO site and is famous for its Baroque churches and scenographic squares. Here you will taste the famous chocolate (Xocoatl) made with ancient methods brought to Sicily with Spanish domination.
Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant, before continuing on to Agrigento. In the afternoon, visit the magnificent Valley Of Temples of Agrigento, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In an almost enchanted valley, full of almond trees in bloom, it is the most impressive group of monuments of all of coastal southern Italy. The unique charm of this site is in this blend of cultural environment and natural landscape. See the Temple of Concord, which is in almost perfectly preserved condition; the Temples of Juno and Heracles that represent the most beautiful example of the Greek Civilisation in Sicily. Check in to your four star hotel, Dioscuri Bay Palace for dinner and an overnight stay.
DAY 5 AGRIGENTO • SELINUNTE • MARSALA • PALERMO
Enjoy a buffet breakfast, prior to departing for the Archaeological Park of Selinunte, the largest in the Mediterranean area with the impressive Temples and Acropolis. Visit a local farmhouse, famous for olive oil production. Here, you are able to taste the local olive oil.
Continue on to Marsala, a city on the western coast, famous for its production of sweet Sicilian wine. Visit the historical city centre before stoping at a prestigious winery, to enjoy a wine tasting and learn about local wine production. Proceed to Palermo, check into your four star hotel, Palazzo Sitano for an overnight stay.
DAY 6 PALERMO • MONREALE • PALERMO
Enjoy a buffet breakfast, before visiting the capital of Sicily, Palermo. Palermo is rich in history and art. You will see the wonderful Arab-Norman Cathedral (during the Holy Mass, exterior visit only). Plus, the amazing Cappella Palatina – miracle example from an historical and an artistic point of view, of how apparently incompatible different cultures, religions and thinking can actually coexist. Also see the debated fountain in Pretoria Square, adorned with XVI century sculptures and the most beautiful Baroque church in Palermo, Santa Caterina and its cloister.
Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant, before traveling to Monreale to visit its huge Norman Cathedral, proclaimed the Eighth Wonder of the World. Experience its splendid Cloister in Arab-Norman style: admirable masterpiece of art, sculpture, and semi-precious stones marquetry. The remainder of the afternoon is spent at your leisure, prior to dinner and overnight in your hotel.
DAY 7 PALERMO
After a buffet breakfast, your tour comes to an end.
